A vision for our community
In 2011, the North Shore community and the Honolulu City Council approved the North Shore Sustainable Communities Plan, which specified the Pupukea commercial lands across from Shark’s Cove as a future “Rural Community Commercial Center”. This commercial area includes the existing Foodland grocery store, and is intended to provide a range of goods and services to meet the needs of the surrounding residential communities and visitors. The closest commercial centers are roughly 6 miles away in Haleiwa town or 11 miles away from Laie, requiring a lengthy drive along the congested Kamehameha Highway. In keeping with the vision and guidance of our North Shore Sustainable Communities Plan, the future rural community commercial center will help support the residents of Sunset Beach, Pupukea and Kawailoa.
